Howard B. Wigglebottom is used to winning. He wins all kinds of contests. The problem is... he's not happy when he doesn't win and everyone around him knows it. His coach tells him about being a team player and making good choices. He learns to be happy with doing the best he can. Do you know any children who need to learn this lesson? I know I do. When my children were young I found it a challenge to get them to enjoy games for the experience and not necessarily for winning.

This book introduces 4-8 years old's to the concepts of respect, camaraderie and teamwork. I teach reading to Kindergarten, first and second grade students, so this was perfect for me to use at school.
My students were drawn to the book by the colorful illustrations. The character's expressions alone will make you want to read it. They're really quite adorable.
They enjoyed the story and were excited to have a 5th grade student volunteer to read it to them. We had an excellent discussion of sportsmanship and they loved listening to the Winning Isn't Everything song (from the website) while working on activities about teamwork.
I'm sorry I can't show you their adorable little faces (for their privacy). You'll have to trust me... they were having a great time!

I tell my kids that everyone places! The order doesn't matter. If you don't try, you can never place, so even last place is better than having no place at all!
